Our legal name is Pixel Union Design Ltd., but most places, we go by Pixel Union.

If you want a shorthand form, you can use PXU. (We think it looks nicer than the oft-used PxU and the never-used PU. Picture it emblazoned on a sweatshirt from a cool university.)

Refer to Pixel Union as we, not it or they.

Don't ever italicize our name.

Capitalize the proper names of Pixel Union products, pages, and tools.

  • Startup, Vogue, Empire

  • Wholesale Club, Pixelpop, Ultimate Special Offers

  • the Contact page on our website

  • our Instagram Access Token Generator

If you're writing for an external audience, it's a good idea to provide additional context.

  • Our large-catalog Empire Shopify theme

  • Pixelpop, a Shopify app that lets merchants create popups to build their mailing list

If you're writing about our website—especially internally—it's okay to abbreviate to pxu.net.

For the curious...

The name Pixel Union harkens back to our Metalab days, when we were creating Tumblr themes for basement bands and amateur photographers. (Also, the White House. Never forget .)

Legend has it that there were once plans to "unite" with a design agency in Atlanta to produce some themes, but talks broke down. Together, we would have been Pixel Union. On our own, we are still Pixel Union.

Fascinating, right?
